Zoning Ordinance Updates | Zoning Reform:
(No More) Parking Regulations (Albany, CA)

Recent State laws have eliminated residential and commercial parking requirements in locations near transit. For the City of Albany, these State regulations covered nearly the entire city. To make regulations equitable across the city, easy to understand and administer, and streamlined across State and local laws, the City of Albany elected to remove minimum parking requirements citywide. Lexington Planning prepared an ordinance that removed minimum parking requirements and established maximum parking requirements for certain uses. These changes are also intended to reduce housing costs; increase walking, biking, and transit use; and support climate resilience goals. The ordinance went into effect in 2023.
